Podcasting

The syllabus places equal importance on creative expression and technical competence. Learners are expected to present original and authentic work while also demonstrating awareness of framing, lighting, sound, camera angles, editing, formatting and appropriate use of music or transitions. This balance ensures that podcasting is understood not only as spoken communication, but also as a planned and edited screen-based media product.

Reflection is embedded throughout the syllabus grades to help learners evaluate both their presentation skills and their creation and production process. By considering what worked well, what was challenging and what could be improved, learners develop critical awareness and take increasing responsibility for the quality of their own work.

These skills are built up and developed gradually as the learner progresses up through the Grades. Progression through the Grades creates meaningful stepping stones in experiencing and developing an understanding of the skills and techniques required for creating and presenting podcasts. The Level 3 Grades carry UCAS tariff points. There is a degree of intellectual research required for subject matter, as well as good storytelling and presentation skills, alongside the technical ability to operate the recording equipment appropriately.
